Floating

Floating in poker is a technique where a player calls a c-bet with weaker hands on the flop with the intention of bluffing on a later round of betting. The goal of floating is to gain information about an opponent’s hand, and to potentially take the pot away from them on a later betting round. By calling a bet instead of raising, a player can keep their opponents from getting a read on their hand strength and can set up a future bluff.

Floating is most often used against opponents who have a tendency to make continuation bets too frequently, or against opponents who are aggressive and frequently make bets without having a strong hand. By floating, a player can pick up valuable information about their opponent’s hand and use that information to make a more informed decision on later betting rounds. It is important to use floating as part of a well-rounded strategy, and to understand the tendencies of the other players at the table.
